When the 1881 Canadian census was taken, this family was living in Ste-Julienne, Montcalm, Quebec where Joseph and his sons Ferdinand and Hormisdas were “cultivateurs”. The last child shown in the household was “Onesime Chartier”. Joseph and Marcelline already had one child they named Onesime? Did the first Onesime die shortly after he married Malvina Payette? Did Joseph and Marcelline decide to give that name to another son born in ca 1875 which was often done in French-Canadian families? Since Onesime and Malvina (Payette) Chartier could not be found in the 1881 Canadian census, this may be what happened. When the 1891 census was taken, Joseph, Marcelline and Albina were still livine in Ste-Julienne. Joseph was now a journalier
