- When the 1895 Minnesota State census was taken, this family was living in Minneapolis (Hennepin), Minnesota. The family of Alexis & Eugenie Meunier were also living in Minneapolis at 2512 Humboldt North. What is interesting is that there is a Norman Chartier, 5/12 years old in this family. There is also a Clara Meunier, 11/12 years old. Clara would be too young to be a child of Alexis and Eugenie. I have determined that Norman Chartier is actually Armand Chartier. He is listed as a son of Flored Chartier, age 43, in the Minnesota 1905 census and in the 1910 U.S. census. Flored is a daughter of Alexis and Eugenie. In the 1905 Minnesota census Flored and “Armond” were living at 1716 Lyndale in Minneapolis. In the 1910 census Flored’s marital status is “widow”; but there is no indication that she was ever married. This probably indicates that Armand was born out of wedlock. In the 1910 census Flored says she is the mother of one child and that child is living. When the 1901 Canadian census was taken, this family was living in Saint-Henri (Hochelaga), PQ. What is interesting about this census is that Mathew, Alice and Leopold all said they were born in the U.S. and that they immigrated in 1892 which doesn’t make sense because they can be found in the 1895 Minnesota State Census. When the 1911 Canadian census was taken, this family was living in Montreal (Hochelaga), Quebec. In this census Mathew and Leopold say they immigrated in 1895 which makes more sense. When the 1930 census was taken, Mathew L. Chartier was living in the “Home for Aged (Little Sisters of the Poor) in Hennepin County.
